A4 paper: the most widely used paper size in Europe and Japan. This size is particularly popular for printing due to its user-friendly and practical dimensions. However, A4 isn’t the global standard. In the USA, Canada, and Mexico, the US Letter size is preferred, which is slightly wider and shorter than A4. But what are the dimensions of A4 paper in millimeters? See below for the answer. A4 size in millimetres with bleed area
Planning to have your design professionally printed? You’ll often find that print specifications require a bleed area of 3 mm on all sides of your file. This “bleed” extends beyond the intended trim size, effectively increasing the gross dimensions of your document. It’s crucial to include this bleed area in your file to avoid any unwanted white edges when your project is trimmed.
A 3 mm bleed means you add an extra 6 mm to both the length and width of your A4 design. So, with a standard A4 size of 210 x 297 mm, your net size remains 210 x 297 mm. However, the gross size (including the bleed area) becomes 216 mm wide x 303 mm long. The printer will then trim away this bleed area to ensure the background of your A4 flyer, menu card, or calendar extends perfectly to the edge.
